Study: Social Media Making People Anti-Social, Jealous

The boom in social media services is largely due to the fact that people believe they lead to more effective communication and deeper relationships. Recent studies have shown, however, that people tend to communicate less when they follow each other on social media. They often consider their online communication as being “hyper-personal,” when in reality it is a less personal form of communication. Though social media allows for unprecedented ease in communication, it can hurt relationships and lead to feelings like jealousy and sadness.
